Bailey & Sammy meet the girls

Bailey and Sammy have adjusted quite well to the new additions to the household. They give the girls an occassional sniff and sometimes head for a different room if the crying gets too loud.

This was Bailey's introduction to Kaitlyn (watch her tail).

Sammy gets close enough to share a blanket - but far enough to be able to make a fast escape if the crying starts.

Homecoming Day!

On August 26, 2008, Madison and Kaitlyn were released from Sparrow Hospital and went home. Hooray!

Mommy and Daddy arrive at Sparrow, ready to bring home their miracle girls. Mommy and Daddy did a trial run Saturday night (8/23) and spent the night at the hospital in a private room with the girls (still in a single crib and hooked to monitors - but no one else in the room all night). No one got much sleep that night, but there were no issues for either girl.

Dr. Olomu gives the girls their final assessment and gives the okay that they can be released.

Mommy and Daddy get some final instructions from nurse Elizabeth.

Favorite nurse, Elizabeth. She was one of the girls' following nurses who was scheduled to work on their day of release.

Favorite nurse, Bonnie. She was also a following nurse who made a special trip into the RNICU on her day off to see her girls go home.

Favorite nurse, Jillian. She was also a following nurse and was just back from her honeymoon the day before and made a special trip into the RNICU on her day off to see her special twins go home.

Favorite nurse, Stephanie (another one of the girls' following nurses who had worked their last night, so she could not be present for departure from the unit).

Another favorite nurse, Colleen (also worked their last night).
Madison and Kaitlyn's dream team that "followed" them - Jillian, Elizabeth, Bonnie, and (not pictured) Stephanie.

Hard to say good-bye, but a happy day for all.

Madison prepares for her first road-trip.

Kaitlyn gets buckled up, too.

The stroller required some engineering skills. :-)

Finally ready to go.

Getting ready to depart the pink room.

Finally exiting the pink room.

Exiting the RNICU.

Nurse Elizabeth was the escort until they exited Sparrow. The wonderful nursing staff has become like extended family and will always hold a special place in their hearts. The next stop was to visit Dr. Roth in the connected professional building.

Dr. Roth started following Keri's special-case pregnancy at 13 weeks and brought the girls into the world. It seemed only right to stop by his office to let him see the miracle girls on their release date.

A wonderful success story for these "24 weekers!"

Cut loose and going home.

A joyous day for Mommy and Daddy as their baby girls finally come home!

DUE DATE - August 22

Kaitlyn and Madison hit a big milestone on August 22, as that was their original due date. Instead, they are 16 weeks old today (almost 4 months!).

On this date, Madison hit another milestone, crossing the 6 lb mark. She weighed 6 lbs 1 oz. Kaitlyn was 5 lbs 2 oz. In most photos, Kaitlyn is on the right, but she is on the left in this one. Sisterly love. :-)

Kaitlyn hits 5 lbs!

Kaitlyn hit a big milestone last night (8/19) when she crossed the 5 lb mark!

Madison is still a little ahead of her sister at a whopping 5 lbs 9 oz. Both girls continue to do well with their feeds, though Kaitlyn tends to have an episode with her heart rate a little more often than Madison. It is possible that Madison could be given the green light to go home near the end of August.

More major milestones

Madison hit the 4 lb mark on July 23, and Kaitlyn was close behind at 3 lbs 14 oz.

Over the next couple weeks, Madison kept up a great weight gaining pace and soon hit the 5 lb mark. The cheeks are definitely filling in! This picture is from 8/13.

Both girls have continued to make progress with their feeds and have been taken off the nasal canula (so just breathing room air completely on their own). This picture was 8/15.
